CIESIN Estonia Node initiatives to identify, document and provide access to information on the Baltic countries (Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania), including:
- CIESIN Gateway, access to a distributed catalog that identifies data and information resources relevant to Estonian natural, and social science communities;
- Estonia Country Guide, interdisciplinary and multimedia, includes documents, datasets, maps, images, text and links to resources available about Estonia in the Internet;
- Estonia OnLine, Network Resources;
- informative pages about The Flag of Estonia and Estonia's Coat of Arms;
- Virtual Tourist Clickable Map;
- Open Estonia Foundation project "Intermedia" (E96-6.02-03) to allow the largest number of people possible physical access to the Internet, its resources and information, user education (tools of the Internet, e-mail, WWW);
- Open Estonia Foundation project "Stylus" to initiate Internet Training and various WWW services;
- EC INCO-COPERNICUS project INSIGHT to transfer the WWW expertise from Western European research organizations, prepare well documented materials for WWW installation and development in Estonian language, caching activities in Estonia;
- internet directories to other on-line information resources in Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Russia.
have been carried out in period December 1993 - January 1997 in joint development of the Estonian Government, Academies, Universities, NGO's, the Consortium for International Earth Science Information Network (CIESIN), United Nations Development Programme / Sustainable Development Network Programme (UNDP/SDNP) and Open Estonia Foundation (OEF).
