3 SINGLE-BYTE CHARACTER SETS
In this chapter, standardized code tables are described. The code tables
are presented in separate paragraphs together with a list containing
distinctive characteristics of the characters. For every character, the
list contains a two-digit hexadecimal code, the corresponding three-digit
decimal number, the IBM Graphic Character Global Identification System
code, graphical representation of the character, a short comment on the
character and the standard English name. According to the ISO standards
tradition (as the GCGIS codes were first included in the standard ISO
6937-2), the descriptive text is written with capital letters. The GCGIS
codes are supplied with prefixes having the following meanings:
L -- Alphabetic, Latin. The letter "L" is followed by the nearest
letter without diacritics and the numeric code of the letter.
ND -- Numerics, Decimal.
NF -- Numerics, Fractions.
SA -- Specials, Arithmetic Symbols.
SC -- Specials, Currency Symbols.
SD -- Specials, Diacritic Marks.
SF -- Specials, Format Symbols.
SM -- Specials, Miscellaneous Symbols.
SP -- Specials, Punctuation Symbols.
SS -- Specials, Supplementary Symbols.
SV -- Specials, Various Symbols.
