6. DATE AND TIME CONVENTIONS
Abbreviated formats for date representation are presented in the table
below in preference order. The date category is marked according to the
IBM manual "National Language Support Reference Manual. Volume
2". In the table, yyyy represents the 4-digit year number, yy
the two last digits of the year number, mm the month number, dd the day
number. In Estonia, a full stop is used to separate the elements of the
abbreviated date (in other countries, a solidus or hyphen is also
used).

Names and abbreviations of the week days (in Estonia, Monday is considered
as the first day of the week):

Thursday- neljapäev - N
The full-length presentation of the date looks as follows:
dd. mmmmm yyyy. a.,
where mmmm is the full or abbreviated name of the month. For example,
19. september 1990. a.
19. sept 1990. a.
To present the time of the day, in Estonia the 24 hour system is used.
Hours, minutes and seconds are separated through colons. If the fractions
of seconds are to be marked, they are added to the time after a comma.
According to the standards ISO 3307 and ISO 1000, the same separator has
to be used as in representing quantities.

The transfer to the summer time in Estonia takes place on the last Sunday
in March, transfer to winter time on the last Sunday in September. The
clock is moved at 02:00. /Editor's note: according to decree No.234 24-09-1996 the transfer to winter time takes place on the last Sunday in October at 03.00 (01.00 GMT)/
